Netflix has released a new trailer for Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio ahead of the film’s December 9 streaming debut.
Details:
- Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio is directed by del Toro and Mark Gustafson (supervising director, The PJs; animation director, Fantastic Mr. Fox). Del Toro also co-wrote the script with Patrick McHale (Over the Garden Wall, Adventure Time).
- Del Toro produced the film alongside The Jim Henson Company’s Lisa Henson, Shadowmachine’s Alex Bulkley and Corey Campodonico, and Exile Entertainment’s Gary Ungar.
- Key creative on the film includes Frank Passingham (director of photography), Guy Davis and Curt Enderle (production design), Ken Schretzman and Holly Klein (editing), Alexandre Desplat (music), Ian MacKinnon, Peter Saunders, and Georgina Hayns (director of character fabrication), Brian Leif Hansen (animation supervisor), Robert DeSue (art direction), Jeffrey Schaper (vfx supervisor), Scott Martin Gershin (sound design and supervision), and Jon Taylor and Frank A. Montano (re-recording mixing).
- Key cast includes Gregory Mann, Ewan McGregor, David Bradley, Tilda Swinton, Christoph Waltz, Finn Wolfhard, Cate Blanchett, John Turturro, Ron Perlman, Tim Blake Nelson, and Burn Gorman.
- Synopsis: A reimagining of the classic Carlo Collodi tale of the fabled wooden boy with a whimsical tour de force that finds Pinocchio on an enchanted adventure that transcends worlds and reveals the life-giving power of love.
- Whether or not Pinocchio moves the needle with Netflix viewers will be well worth tracking. This year has proved a mixed bag for Netflix original animated features. Chris William’s The Sea Beast became the streamer’s most-watched original animated feature over the summer, but neither Richard Linklater’s Apolo 10 1/2 nor Henry Selick’s Wendell & Wild were able to break onto Netflix’s Top 10 weekly ratings.
- Besides Pinocchio, the streamer will release two other original animated features before the end of the year: My Father’s Dragon and Scrooge: A Christmas Carol.
