ANIMAFILM promotes creativity with animation. We believe animated films can unite people and make significant changes in our society.
Since 2018 ANIMAFILM Festival brings together children, young people and families, animation directors and studios to introduce them to international experience, meets them with local and foreign professionals, shows hundreds of animated films, holds master classes, conferences, concerts, performances and exhibitions.
6th ANIMAFILM International Animation Festival
The 6th ANIMAFILM International Animation Festival, organized by the Azerbaijan Animation Association, with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Film Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan, was held at the Nizami Cinema Center from September 6 to 10, 2023. A total of 64 diverse animated films for both children and adults were screened over the course of five days.
The theme of the festival was “Women’s Rights”. The revenue obtained from ticket sales was donated to local young women directors.
5th ANIMAFILM International Animation Festival
The 5th ANIMAFILM Festival was held at the Nizami Cinema Center from 7 to 11 September 2022. 121 animated films were screened over five days at the festival. The theme of the festival was “Climate Change” and the motto was “One ticket = One Tree”. All funds obtained from ticket sales (4119 AZN) was donated to the Karabakh Revival Fund. On April 2023, 412 trees were planted in Zangilan region.
4th ANIMAFILM International Animation Festival
The 4th ANIMAFILM Festival was held in live format on September 3-7, 2021. About 200 different animated films for children and adults from 40 countries were screened for five days at the festival. The festival theme was “Disability”. Various workshops were held for young animation enthusiasts and promoted the development of Azerbaijani animation art, including the masterclasses by Masud Panahi and Olivier Catherin’s for film and animation producers, and a seminar for composers and sound directors led by Nick Phelps and Nancy Denney-Phelps. The children’s juries remained active too.
The echo of the 4th ANIMAFILM Festival was held in the Shaki city on November 23-25, 2021.
3rd ANIMAFILM International Animation Festival
The 3rd ANIMAFILM Festival was held in live format on October 4-18, 2020. The theme of the festival was “Children of Azerbaijan”. The children’s jury was formed, consisting of 31 children. Within the framework of the festival, there were 3 theater workshops, two-day puppet animation master classes and screenings of animated films.
2-ci 2nd ANIMAFILM International Animation Festival
The 2nd ANIMAFILM Festival was organized on October 14-18, 2019. The main theme of the festival was “Czech Animation”. The festival featured a conference dedicated to the 50th anniversary of Azerbaijani animation, as well as animation workshops led by Greek and French professionals. A children’s jury was formed to evaluate the nomination in the category of “Best Short Animated Film Made by Children”. An open letter was addressed to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev at the closing ceremony of the festival. The problems of our national animation were reflected in the letter signed by 300 people.
1st ANIMAFILM International Animation Festival
The 1st ANIMAFILM Festival was held on October 19-21, 2018. The theme of the festival was “Azerbaijani Animation”. Festival included: the “ReAnimation” exhibition dedicated to the history of national animation, a puppet theater for children, a piano concert, a retrospective screening of the best Azerbaijani, Georgian and Iranian animation films with the participation of authors, and master classes for children by professionals from Russia, Czech Republic, Germany and Georgia. During three days, children and adults had the opportunity to watch films of a rich competition program consisting of more than 20 films from 17 countries. Twenty foreign and nearly 500 local guests participated in the 1st ANIMAFILM festival.
