ANIMAFILM Baku International Animation Festival had an official visit to the biggest animation event of the year – Annecy International Animated Film Festival
ANIMAFILM was presented at Annecy’s MIFA (The International Animation Film Market) from 11 to 15 June, 2018. MIFA, the largest commercial project in the field of animation in Europe, is the global platform for financing, sales and co-production deals, as well as education, recruitment and networking. More than 3,000 professionals participate in MIFA each year
Azerbaijani festival ANIMAFILM was represented at MIFA with the kind support of the CEE Animation (the former Visegrad Animation Forum), which contributes to the development of the animation art in Central and Eastern Europe.
The importance of Eastern European countries being presented at MIFA is expressed by Mickaël Marin, CITIA Managing Director and Head of Economic Development & MIFA: “Eastern European animation is booming. And it’s really important for us, because we really want to see how we can help professionals from Eastern Europe participate in Annecy.” (Animation World Magazine, June 2018, p. 30)
Many animation studios and organisations expressed interest in ANIMAFILM, and now the negotiations for cooperation are in progress. Rashid Aghamaliyev, the founder and the director of the first ANIMAFILM Baku International Animation Festival, said: “Unfortunately, the animation industry of Azerbaijan is in a state of crisis nowadays. We hope to get support for our festival from our government and the international platforms, such as Annecy International Animated Film Festival. We also hope that Azerbaijan joins the MEDIA Creative Europe programme of the European Union, which supports the development, distribution and promotion of animated films. It is absolutely necessary for integration of the Azerbaijani animation into the European animation industry.”
ANIMAFILM is proud to represent Azerbaijan in Annecy’s unique celebration of animation art and we are looking forward to the collaboration with leading animation players!
