ANIMAFILM School is offering a workshop and funding program called ‘Women’s Rights Through Animated Films’ for filmmakers and animation authors. The program will be held from September 6th to September 10th, 2023, in Baku.
Seven authors submitted their projects, and five of them were selected for participation in the program:
1) Narmin Guliyeva
2) Leyla Novruzova
3) Zahrakhanim Guluzade
4) Aygun Bakhshiyeva
5) Mehriban Aliyeva
The professional training will be provided by three animation professionals: Swiss director Isabelle Favez, French producer Olivier Catherin, and Azerbaijani director Nazrin Aghamaliyeva. The experts will teach participants how to develop, pitch, and produce their short animated film projects.
The workshop will take place in Baku at the premises of the Film School of the Azerbaijan Union of Filmmakers. Program participants will also undergo relevant training focusing on women’s rights and inclusivity, facilitated by Gender Hub Azerbaijan.
As a result of the workshop, authors will present (pitch) their projects publicly at the 6th ANIMAFILM International Animation Festival. The best projects will be awarded cash prizes at the closing ceremony of the festival. The prize fund will be equal to the festival’s revenue from ticket sales.
The workshop and funding program will provide a unique opportunity for young animation artists (both women and men) to start their career and help them develop and fund their animated films.
The program is funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation in Azerbaijan. The partners of the program are the Azerbaijan Animation Association, PERI FILM LLC, the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation in Azerbaijan, the Azerbaijan Union of Filmmakers, and Gender Hub Azerbaijan.
